Glass Vacuum Lifters: An Introduction

Make glass lifting effortless and take away the strain of manual handling with our leading range of glass Vacuum lifters. With over 10 years in the industry, we now offer a wide range of Vacuum Lifters and an outstanding lifting equipment hire service.

Vacuum lifters are hired for a safe and reliable way to lift large, heavy loads made from a range of materials such as glass, stone, cladding, composite panels, metal and ceramics. From 80kg capacity through to 2000 kg capacity, Vacuum and Crane have a wide variety of vacuum lifters to suit different materials and weights.

With a full design and assembly facility, we can lift anything from a few kilograms to 5 tons! We can supply vacuum lifters to run on electricity, compressed air or with on-board re-chargeable batteries.

Vacuum lifters can be suspended from a crane, attached to a forklift, to a truck-mounted crane or to an elevated working platform (cherry picker). The Vacuum Lifters hydraulic funtions allow panels to swing up and down, be raised and lowered, twist left and right, or move forward and backward horizontally.

One of the most effective options is to use a vacuum lifter attached to a mini crane. These cranes can be used for installing or simply lifting materials. The dimensions of a compact crane when its legs and arm are folded are minimal, allowing the smallest mini crane to fit in spaces where access is most restricted.

MRTA8 Glass Vacuum Lifter – 635kg

The new Woods Powr-Grip MRTA8 is a welcome upgrade to the very popular MRTA6 with increased lifting capacity and four-bar tilt mechanism, an excellent mid-range vacuum. The MRTA8 glass Vacuum Lifter features a four-bar tilt mechanism, making it easier to tilt loads between flat and upright. Featuring 360 degree manual rotation and 90 degree assisted manual tilt, the MRTA8 has removable vacuum pads and extension arms, which means it can handle loads with an assortment of shapes and sizes.

Created to lift 320kg in a 4-pad formation and 635kg in an 8-pad configuration, the MRTA8 glass Vacuum Lifter is ideal for lifting smooth materials such as glass, sheet metal and composite panels. This vacuum lifter’s capacity and flexibility makes it ideal for a range of projects.

As a standard safety feature, the MRTA8 provides two independent vacuum circuits that support each other in the event of system failure. When the lifter is being operated, the MRTA8 produces constant audible and visible alarms until the accurate level of vacuum suction has been reached. The pump then stops to save battery life. A sensor switch records any small loss of vacuum and restarts the pump to build vacuum suction back up to the correct level.

Features
  • Powerful 635kg capacity from eight 305mm suction cups
  • Four bar tilt mechanism
  • Multiple configurations for different load sizes
  • Low vacuum alert.

Benefits of using Vacuum Lifters:

  • Vacuum lifters minimise the risk of damaging the materials being installed. For glass handling, this is especially important.
  • They also increase productivity. Vacuum lifters can speed up material handling.
  • Using vacuum lifting techniques is safer than manual handling and allows materials to be delivered and placed with far greater precision.
  • Vacuum lifters have developed rapidly and can now lift heavy loads safely and easily. Meaning that several of the vacuum lifters supplied by Vacuum and Crane for hire, can be used to handle glass, and adapted for many other materials.

How to calculate Glass Weight (KG)?

Length in metres x height in metres x thickness in mm x 2.5

If the glass unit is double or triple glazed, the thickness of each leaf of the unit should be added together and treated as a single leaf. Remember, never add the air space. Finally with double glazed units, an extra 2% of the total must be added to the weight to include the frame (spacer bar) and if it is a framed unit an extra 5% is added.
